Description
ScanTeam 5400/B products provide a unique Welch Allyn identity in the new mid-range depth of field "Standard Performance" category of laser scanners. The ST5400/B provides value and durability in an ergonomically designed enclosure. The ST5400/B series is available with Welch Allyn's Instant Interface Module, integrating bar code decoding and interfacing in the scanner. The ST5400/B is also available in non-decoded output for connection to an external decoder.

The Instant Interface Module provides aggressive bar code decoding, advanced data editing and formatting capabilities, and a wide range of host connectivity. All Instant Interface firmware is stored in FLASH memory which may be reprogrammed in the field by cloning from one unit to another, or by downloading from Welch Allyn's PC-based software tools.

Interfaces include a wide range of keyboard wedges, serial RS-232, wand emulation, and proprietary direct connect to POS devices, such as NCR OCIA, IBM 5B/9B/17, and IBM/Fujitsu OCR.

Applications
The flexibility and performance of the ST5400/B series scanners make them applicable to a range of applications from retail point-of-sale to back room, inventory/asset tracking, and office automation.

The Instant Interface Module also supports the dual interface feature. In dual interface mode, the scanner automatically configures itself to specific host parameters based on the cable attached to the scanner. The dual interface feature allows one scanner to serve multiple applications (e.g., Retail POS and Portable Data Collection), greatly increasing the cost effectiveness of the product.
